ABOUT MBBS IN NEPAL :
In Nepal, two universities and two deemed university offers undergraduate medical education
(MBBS program). Tribhuvan University and Kathmandu University offers MBBS program
via their constitutent and affiliated Medical Colleges. Whereas BPKIHS and PAHS are
running their in house MBBS program (i.e. they make their own curriculum, have their own
independent syllabus, entrance examination and examination patterns.)

MBBS Quota:
MBBS program was started in Nepal in 1978 enrolling 22 students. Now every year more
than 400 students get enroll for the MBBS degree and all college have 33% foreign quota
seats except Manipal and college of medical science which has 50% foreign quota.

COURSE DURATION OF MBBS IN NEPAL
 1. The total duration of this MBBS course is same as in India, that is, 4.5 years with 1 year
of internship, which you can do it anywhere either in India or Nepal*(condition applied)
 2. For MS and MD course it is 3 years. For Ph.D. the duration is 2 years.
MBBS IN NEPAL – IS IT SAFE FOR INDIAN STUDENTS?
 1. Nepal is an extremely safe and female dominating country.
 2. Students who have gone to Nepal for MBBS studies can safely travel there by using
public transport like flights, buses, trains or cabs without any fear or worries as there is no
crime in the country.
 3. The majority of the population of Nepal practice hindu/budhisim & Christianity and are
God loving. People of Nepal are also very welcoming and accept religious and cultural
diversities.
SYLLABUS OF MBBS COURSE IN NEPAL
There are overall 9 semesters in the MBBS course in Nepal for the duration of 4 and a half
years. Students will have to complete one year of compulsory rotating internship either in
Nepal medical college/ university or in their home country after the successful completion
of 9 semesters.
Following are the two parts in which the complete MBBS course is divided.
 1. Integrated teaching of basic medical subjects can be done in first four semesters.
 2. Next five semesters are devoted to the clinical subjects.
In the first part, the subjects taught would be-
 Anatomy
 Pharmacology
 Biochemistry
 Community medicine
 Physiology
 Pathology
 Microbiology
In the second part the subjects taught would be-
 Medicine
 Surgery
 Pediatrics
 Orthopedics
 Obstetrics and Gynecology
 Ophthalmology
 Radiology
 Skin and VD
 Toxicology
 Psychiatry and forensic medicine
At the end of fourth semester the students shall be examined in Pharmacology, Pathology
and Microbiology and would not be permitted to be promoted to fifth semester unless they
are declared successful in all the three subjects as well as in Anatomy, Physiology and
Biochemistry.
After passing the above subjects the students shall have a vacation of one month during
which they would be taken to field visits in Kathmandu for the purpose of fulfilling the
requirements of community medicine. Community medicine shall continue in 5th semester
at the end of which examination shall be held.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR MBBS IN NEPAL
 NEET Qualified student from India is eligible to take direct admission in
Medical colleges in Nepal. And Non- Qualified student can also take
admission but they have to appear for Medical Education Commision’s
(MEC) common entrance exam(CEE) to get admission in any Medical
college in Nepal.
 Students who have completed their 12th exam with English, Biology, Physics and
Chemistry as main subjects and having secured not less than 50% marks in the above
mentioned subjects plus an overall aggregate of 50%.
ADMISSION PROCESS FOR MBBS IN NEPAL
1)Students have to send their academics document of
10th/12thMarkcard/Marksheet, Aadhar Card /passport, PP size photo, scanned
copy of signature along with NEET Qualified Score Card/Admit card then fill
up application form of concerned college/Medical education
commission’s(MEC) common entrance exam(CEE). After decided by MEC,
students get direct admission within aprx.10 days in affiliated college with fees
aprox.35lakh to 55lakh INR.
3)In BPKIHS/PAHS/KAHS Students have to send academics
document of 10th/12thMarkcard, Aadhar Card /passport, PP size photo,
scanned copy of signature and have to fillup application form and have to
appear in entrance exam in Nepal/ through NEET basis(without appearing
exam). After passing entrance exam/NEET exam students can get
admission.
MBBS IN NEPAL
Medical colleges, mostly private, exist throughout Nepal. Local students are admitted
after an entrance exam, and foreign students are admitted after NEET/Exam taken
by concerned Medical Education Commision’s Common Entrance Exam & open
house counselling. To be eligible for admission to MBBS courses in Nepal’s medical
colleges, students must pass the higher secondary examination in science or its
equivalent. Medical education is regulated by the Medical Council of Nepal
&approved by Ministry of education and affiliated from concern university . In
addition to accrediting the country’s medical colleges, the council conducts the
licensing examination for new doctors, makes policies related to curriculum,
admission, terms and examinations and makes registration recommendations.
The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery is a four and a half year
integrated program followed by a compulsory internship training of one year. The
standards and criteria adopted by NMC are in strict adherence to the requirements of
Nepal Medical Council and Kathmandu University. The first two academic years
focus on basic medical science with interdepartmental integration as well as clinical
and community correlation. A holistic approach to health and health care system in
Nepal is taken. The course starts in ,August –September or March – april every
academic year.
